AISI 420 - EN 1.4021 is a martensitic machining bar with improved machinability due to the addition of Sulphur. This alteration enhances workability of the steel, but causes a decrease in corrosion resistance, weldability, and formability when compared to non-free machining Grade 410.

Essential details
ASTM 420 stainless steel is a high-carbon steel with a minimum chromium content of 12%. Like any other stainless steel, 1.4021 can also be hardened through heat treatment. It offers good ductility in its annealed state and excellent corrosion resistance properties when the metal is polished, surface grounded or hardened. This grade has the highest hardness - 50HRC - among all the stainless steel grades with 12% chromium.
Typical Applications:
- Shear blades
- Needle valves
- Surgical equipment
- Cutlery
